definitely! at least in my area! there's a house for sale right now (i think ive posted this here before, not sure) its 2 stories, fully updated with granite countertops, wood and tile flooring, chefs kitchen, decorated backyard, MIL suite, 2 car garage, AND 5 acres for just under $400,000

    Exactly.

If you're looking for some average ranch house in my area, in a nice part of town, on a fraction of an acre, you can expect to pay about 200-300k.

Oh it totally does... it kills me when I see the shit places I've been looking at in the $350k - $400k and realize that if I had gone to grad school in Austin instead, I'd be looking at brick mansions for that price.

I am going to say in my area 160K gets you a good spread. It climbs fast for a nice property in town though.

If I sold now, I'd get a loss of around £20-30k

Depends....east coast: the average in my area is between $100 and $150k for a 3 bedroom. Where I am in the west..it's madness, friends just bought a 1500 square foot home, 3 bedroom, 2 bath for $724k, the average apparently is a bit more than that @ $760k for a single family home.....mini homes sell for $500,000.

To bad you can't make the money here that you most likely make out there.

Wouldn't happen...but I'm only here 2 weeks and in camp. My home is NS and hopefully it always be, the money I make is spent there, so it's all good.
