Ugh the variance in cost of living makes me cry haha... I don't even want to think about how gross places in the $150k range would be here...

This is my current home that is up for sale right now. Nothing spectacular but you should have seen it when I bought it I got it last year as a starter house to build some equity.
There is new flooring, paint and the bathroom was renovated.

    You did good usandthem

I hate to even admit this since Shan thinks a 150K house would be gross, but I bought mine at $87,000 from a desperate seller. It would only have been about $100k tops when I bought it 10 years ago. It is a 2 story home. 3 bedrooms and 2&1/2 baths and a one acre yard on a dead-end cul-de-sac. A home was built on the empty lot beside me 2 years ago and it sold new for $160k.

LOL I think I need to move

I just did a quick search for the $100-200K range in my immediate area, and this is what I come up with:

    http://www.redfin.com/MA/Boston/247-...1/home/9006548

527 sq ft 1 bed 1 bath for $199K, no parking included... and that kitchen and bathroom are scary looking to me...

Jesus, plus another 360/month in HOA dues? I'll never live in the city again. I love all my horse farms, and outdoor shopping avenues.

It's actually not uncommon to see HOAs in the city that are almost as much as the mortgage payment itself. I saw one place that sounded good on paper, but had a $900+ HOA. Luckily most of the 'burbs we've been looking at have HOAs closer to the $150 mark.

I don't mind HOAs. I LOVE our huge double waterslide neighbor pool, and our yearly fee isn't bad at all for everything we get. Workout center, dog park, 6 or 8 tennis courts, playground, double pool with waterslides. Not bad for like 1200 a year.

But if would have to be REALLY special stuff for me to justify what could be a car payment a month!
