Did anyone see that cross that Johnson put into Carroll yesterday (Carroll fluffed it)
That was enough to make me think: "Yeah, he's still our England right back"

Kyle Walker? Micah Richards?

I'd take Johnson over Richards any day, I find him overrated massively. Walker's okay but not ready to be first choice at a major Championship yet.

Johnson's got a lot of quality going forward, that is plain to see.

I don't have anything against 5-3-2, 3-5-2. Although, does an England manager get enough time with the players to teach a radical system like that? Probably not.
All I want of England is to be hard to beat, and a quick and dangerous on the counter.
If done right then the 3-5-2, how I do it, will be really quick counter. Bomb down the wings with pacey wing-backs, who can also defend too, and skillful strikers too with a strong/powerful midfield to boot.
who'd take carroll?

I'd take him over Grant Holt, and Bent (because I don't see Bent being fit at all, you don't mess around with Achilles injuries) so probably. But he wouldn't be first choice. I'd probably play Crouch in the first two games and then bring back Rooney. Maybe name Grant Holt in the provisional squad and see how he does against Norway.

Crouch over Carroll any day. Crouch has got class. Carroll could be useful only for the last 10 minutes if we are losing.

Crouch's international record is really good, 22 goals in 42 games. And has experience of going to a tournament, so he'd have to be higher up in the pecking order.

I abused my powers and made this it's own thread to discuss the England squad. It'll be announced next Wednesday (well, the provisional 30 man one)
Chris Smalling won't be in it, he's out with a groin injury.
Danny Welbeck should make it despite having ankle trouble.
