Do you ever bargain meat shop?
Do you ever buy reduced meat? I just bought two steaks for grilling which were originally marked over $10 per pound. I paid $3.99 a pound. Also got a deal on some pork chops.

Usually just means their best before date is coming up, got a massive gammon joint once for a few quid.

Re: Do you ever bargain meat shop?
I would be leery about buying meat on the premise of knowing this: working at a supermarket for seven years I saw some things done that would make your skin crawl. with that being said, I would have asked someone at the meat counter to open the package and allow you to inspect the item. No smell should be visible nor should any real dark marks on the piece also lastly, the two sides should not be moldy to the touch or smell....

I have seen very discolored meat on reduced. I always look for unsealed packaging & discoloration.

Only meat I buy is boneless pork loin and chicken. The rest I raise and butcher myself. Some things are OK if used promptly. I won't bother vacuum sealing meat that is questionable for freshness.

I don't bargain shop but if there is a deal going I am more likely to get that meat. I love when I find a package of 10 pork chops for $10, but I still buy pork chops even if they aren't on sale.
