Lightbulb Lighting... Are you ready to convert to LED lights ?

So the technology of LED lighting has evolved far enough to start changing lights in homes to these new products. The cost on the initial buy is still high but the savings on your electricity bills should quickly offset the cost on the high running lights in your homes.

Have you started to switch the lights in your home to LED Lights ?

I'd get it. The cfl ones do my head in with how dim they are.

That is just one of many.. There are so many now, some that look like regular bulbs at Home Depot, that you would be indifferent to the shape and size and only the price would matter when you purchase it.

I have energy saving bulbs at the moment, I'm guessing these are the next step up? I have no objection to upgrading, but my purse does

I agree, they are very bad for those who are subject to migraines, depression and other health issues.

Not to mention the mercury content in them..

I have cfl's in most of my lights now. The exceptions are basement and any outside lights. By the time they quit I hope the LED ones are affordable. I will not buy bulbs that are not made in America anymore. Have 4 cases of incandescent bulb in 3 different wattages for use around the farm that were all made in America.

We already use LED/energy efficient lighting at the fuzzy house!

We have been on the LED bandwagon for some time.. i think as far back as 2005 when we bought our first home, we only used the low energy light bulbs.
    nothing to see here... YET

Something I don't know and didn't see it in the article.

What percentage of energy use in the home is used for lighting?

What is the return on investment switching over to LED's?

Not sure about that article listing but according to a report I read 11% on average.. It really depends on how much you use, what size the home is and what type of heating you would have in comparison. It's like comparing a Gas car to a Electric one as far as miles per gallon..

All I know is that soon enough the old bulbs will no longer be available as for sure they are really bad on consumption and that CFL's are full of mercury and for your health in general..

I have a few variations of those flashlights.. Some are total crap and some I got for free are super bright.. Depends who the LED manufacturer is..

The last two years has created a whole new world for LEDs.. People learned the hard way that you need to keep the die as cool as possible to make it last its full potential.. Those who buy from a cheap Chinese manufacturer will only get what they pay for at this point in time..

Those spiral ones are CFLs and what is bad for your health. To be quite honest, you would be far better with the old incandescent lights than those.. Not to mention the mercury in them..

Think about the first set of Christmas LED lights that came out and how crappy they were.. They have evolved into quite a great product since and are no longer a novelty.. I remember my electricity bills jumping from $150.00 in November to $275.00 December with the old lights.. Once I switched to the good LED Christmas Lights I left them all all night and my bill barely went up my $35.00 if that much.

I got some LED lights for my home. They are bit expensive but electricity bills are coming down. Thinking of some more replacements.
