my stolen puppy.

I'm looking for suggestions as what to do about my puppy.
A while back in July my boyfriend at the time had boughten me a puppy. And we broke up recently and the puppy is still mine, he has even said so. I have her papers i got when i had gotten her, but unfouruntitly it was in his name because i'm to young to buy the dog where i got her from. But i have whitness saying that she is my dog. She has been known as my dog and not his. I've had her living with me and jsut me since July.
Now the problem now is that we've broken up and he's deciding he wants rights to her all of a sudden?
He's had her at his parents house for just 5 days today, and i've been asking for her back since sunday night, and he has continued to say that she's just going to stay there for a few days because right now im visiting my mother who's getting surgery in just a few days (

So i messaged him again thru text today saying i want her today, because dear lord i miss her more than anything...And he's saying that he wants her for another week. He claims he's not trying to steal her but deserves this time which he all of a sudden wants with her. Do i have a right to call the police and get them to remove the dog and bring her to me ???
do i have any rights ?? is she still considered my dog no matter what?
She was a gift to me, and i've taken care of her and payed her vet bills since the time i've had her...
I miss her alot and i just want my baby back..

Awww im sorry. That sucks...

Legally because the dog is in his name...it is legally his..

But you can go to small claims court to re-attain her....i think the best thing to do is to not get nasty, play it his way..be friendly...and keep saying how much you miss her.

If hes said hes not trying to steal her..then im sure he wont...but if it continues, ask citizens advice for the best option. Like you say, she is your dog...and you want her home. *hugs*

possession is 9/10th of the law. You would basically need to sue him to get her back. And if he did give her as a gift, there shouldn't be any problem. But you just can't call the cops and demand they go get her for you.

Be very nice to him, get on his good side, then ask if you can take the puppy to the park for an afternoon, or to the vet, or to get ice cream. Anything to get the puppy away from him. Promise up and down that you'll bring her right back. Then once you get her, don't give her back. If he wants her, he'll have to go to court to get her...

if you've paid all the bills and have the papers and have been the sole caretaker...I'd say you have case....you CAN call the polic for just information on what they can do for you...call their info line not the 911 line.
