My guy is currently doing long hauls. He used to be an owner/operator but the economy basically busted his business. Fuel prices and loss of contracts did him in and he had to file chap 13 and lost his rig. So he's back to driving for a company. He's now on his 4th week out and damn I miss him but I have to say it's not as bad as before because with cellphones we can keep in touch constantly. He had his first lot lizard approach him over the weekend and fed her a granola bar to get her to leave him alone. I told him not to feed the wildlife cause it will just make them come back. lol

I've enjoyed listening to the soap opera chatter on the CB and came to the conclusion that the CB is basically just a chat room for truckers. You have your discussion artists, your trolls, your conspiracy theorists, and you have your SPAM advertisers and porn ads. We sat all weekend on the phone with each other just laughing about the chatter since he was stuck in Houston for 2 days.

I get over if I can. Just remember when merging onto a highway in front of a 40 ton truck doing 65 mph, you wouldn't feel a thing on impact... and it would take quite a few hours for them to find all your body parts.

Gasoline mixed with diesel.. I've heard of it... but nothing good. Would make the motor rev like hell but wouldn't hold together.
In years past, some would mix gasoline with diesel so it flowed better in cold weather. No more than a gallon or so to a tankful, which would be 125-150 gallons per side, there's a fuel tank on each side.

Very seldom done anymore due to the easy access to fuel additives and in-tank heaters to keep the fuel warm.

So true. I've been around trucks all my life...it's amazing how little people realize about them...they're big ass machines on the road that deserve respect.

dad used to deliver Habitant soup (we'd get up early 3am) and watch them load the truck then he would drive it down to the local supermarket warehouse...an easy $500/shipment back in 1970s money...

Great job/money back in the day.

I have alot of truck drivers in my family and I worked for a couple of trucking companies....definitely an under-appreciated line of work. I wouldn't do it.

I drove for the better part of 20 years. Mostly local/regional. Though the antics of the average automobile driver are annoying, at least, dangerous, at worst, I find the newer generation of truck drivers to be about as inconsiderate as the "4-wheelers" they bitch about.
