    Default Ask a truck driver

Ever had a question about those trucks that seem to get all in your way? Questions about living out of a truck? What its like being at work 24-7? About CB radios and lot lizzards? Ask away. I don't have all the answers but I have a army of driver friends and tons of tech literature that can get you the answers.

    So ask away!

Do you have to pay for your own gas out of your income or does the company pay for it?

What is more nerve racking? 70 mph in heavy traffic on the highway, or slow traffic in tight roads?

11 right now. Allowed to be on duty for 14. So you have 3 hours of loading time, unloading time, truck repair, or some other unknown.

Depends. If you own your truck, then you pay for your own fuel. Although most get a fuel surcharge. Which can be anything from a penny a mile to an unknown amount. Never heard of much over a dollar a mile though.

If you drive a company truck, the company pays for the fuel. But you earn considerably less.

The way fuel prices are going its almost impossible to be a owner/operator (own your truck). I was talking with a friend of mine last week that made a little over 6 grand for that week. After truck payment, insurance, fuel, and other expenses for the week he took about $1,200 home. You can make that easily as a company driver without the headache of owning a truck. Which is a major headache. Although he has earned over $81,000 in the past 6 months.

Depends... if the traffic is flowing ok its not so bad on the highway in heavy traffic. Thats next to impossible though.

Slow traffic on tight roads is frustrating but the easiest to drive. I rather run someone over at 20mph than 70 anyday.
