yeah.. i saw this on the news earlier.... i love how self centered we are on earth.. hahaha-- to think we are the only ones that could exist!! i love us earthians... errr that doesnt work the same as martians.... what are we called?

It depends. There does not seem to be one single term - most Sci Fi refer to the people of the planet Earth as Terrans - it's from the Latin word Terra which means "the world" among other things. The other popular name for people from Earth is Earthlings.

I think Terrans sounds better & being Latin based translates well across virtually all European languages.

Sorry to disappoint you but there is very little chance that there is any life on Mars - it's a pretty harsh atmosphere - any life that did exist there would be very old - it would have needed to have developed when the Martian atmosphere was much warmer & the planet was more alive, volcanically speaking. It would also probably be single celled or extremely simple multicelled creatures.

That's not to say that there isn't more complex life elsewhere, intelligent - seems doubtful, but that arguement is for another thread perhaps.

Personally I can't understand why there is interest in whether Mars could support life. We've got this planet to live on and we're doing a pretty good job ballsing this one up. Do we really need to go and fuck another planet up as well?:

Yes we do.

If we don't go elsewhere we will die on this overpolluted, resourced out chunk of rock.

We are hunter/gatherers & this pasture is fast becoming used up - time to move on to new hunting grounds.
