![]() | Do they make these through USB ports? I have roughly a 40gig harddrive in my laptop. This is how it works out: 26,304,016,384 bytes used 10,027,044,864 bytes free I'm looking for either another 40, 80, or 100 gigs so I can actually store all my games and other files on, while leaving this one for my basic programs, music and pictures. How much am I looking to spend here and do they even make USB external harddrives? |

I think you will have trouble installing and running games from it though as it is not a 'mounted' drive. You can now pick up 400-500Gb ones here for under £200 ($400). Well worth getting as it is a great portable device too. I can't advise where to look over there but here I use a place called Maplin who have good prices. Maplin > 300GB Seagate External USB 2.0 Hard Drive I'd just check out Ebay but buy from a trader rather than a private seller.. eBay - external harddrive, Drives, Controllers Storage, Desktop Laptop Accessories items on eBay.com=

Since you often can get great deals on internals, most of the time this is much cheaper to do than purchase a standard external. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hotswap you mean james - when externals first came out for the mainstream user, they were available as firewire and usb. firewire, while it still may be used in the external storage market, usb has basically taken over when it comes to the user market share. as to pricing - see if you can find an internal hard drive that is compatible with your laptop that is bigger in capacity than your current one. if you do go the external route, the games and os should be on the internal one, whilst your music and "videos" should be on the external. and see if you can find one that has locking capabilites. you dont want other people finding your "personal" information. ![]() |

![]() | I want my games and whatnot on the external, because I use my laptop for work also. Meaning while I'm sittin in the back of a place programming a phone system, I can listen to my music. The games I don't need everywhere, as I only really play them at home anyway. Internal 80 gig drives are too expensive because of installation charges. I want something I can get home and plug into. |
