Default The future of the automotive industry

Tesla Motors

Looks like a really nice car, and there is no denying it's a quick little fucker. The one downside is that it is going to be expensive. Some would say that you would end up still making out just on money saved on fuel costs alone. Feh! I can forsee that the more electric cars that are produced the more expensive electricity will be. I can see the power companies capitalizing on this and jacking costs up. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist though.

Saw this a while back else where.

I wonder how the drive to the wheels is?? If there is too much unsprung weight the handling will be all over the place.

My money is on Hydrogen for the future.

Hydrogen eh? I'm not too sure I would want to be driving around in a car that is fueled by a fusionable substance! LOL! What would happen if a Hydrogen car were to have a head on collision with another Hydrogen car? Screeeeech, crash, BOOOOOOM!
I just looked up the Honda Civic Hybrid car and it looks like a pretty good deal to me. 50 mpg for under $25,000. That's not too shabby. Plus, the IRS is giving a tax credit for the buyers of the first 60,000 of those cars.

This past February 10th, Mazda received permission from Japan’s Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport to begin leasing the RX-8 Hydrogen RE to two corporate customers. The Hydrogen RE features a rotary engine that can run on either gasoline or hydrogen with the flick of a switch. By the end of the year Mazda plans to have lease contracts for ten vehicles in total.

The Hydrogen RE was unveiled at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show and it’s taken 29 months of development to get the concept ready for the real world. When running on hydrogen the RX-8 will emit no carbon dioxide or nitrogen oxide while providing the driver about 107 horsepower. The monthly payment for the vehicle is pretty hefty, however, at 420,000 yen including tax, or about $3,576 US a month.

I am pretty sure many of the large car manufaturers are playing with hydrogen too. I believe BMW set some speed records with a hydrogen powered car or somehting.. I'll try and find some info..

Here ya go..

my bet would be ethanol, but it pollutes the environment as much as gasoline during the process of making it. but, on the other hand, all this environmental hysteria is a bunch of bullshit as well, so I dunno. I can't see myself driving a hybrid...currently, all of them look like a "gay spacemobile". a lot of them dont offer the manual transmission. and surely all of them are very underpowered (except Honda Accord Hybrid with 250bhp....for 30 grand), so I'll just stick to my good ole Legend.
