how do you change the type of file a file is

I miss named it so the file did not have a file type
then typoed the file to HTLM instead of HTML and curious if there is a way I can change that

or if I am screwed

just rename it, with like example.doc or what ever format it was previously, if you cannot see the file extensions on any of your files open my computer, click tools, folder options > click view > uncheck hide extensions for known files

If renaming doesn't work, you have to go to Tools-Folder options-View and make sure "Hide extensions for known files" is unchecked.

When you next rename the file, it's extension will be whatever you added.

When you recheck the box, you won't end up with files who don't have extensions.
