i priced my clutch at 320.00 usd not bad for the year and make and all that but...

chaning a clutch on a front wheel drive can I've heard can be a hassle....

you have to remove the suspension and driveshafts from both front tires then actually lift up the car to remove the tranny and clutch housing....

already sounds like alot of work..

Yep, and 300 dollars in labor is the general cost, depending on the hourly rate of said mechanic.

The new clutch in my Escort cost me 600 bones. It doesn't sound like he's trying to rip you off.

If you know what you're doing, all you'd have to do is pull the trans apart from the engine. I've heard of FWD clutches get changed out with everything still in the car.

Sorry I was raised around cars and if you have to ask how to change out the clutch you should not be the one to fix it.

But yea $600 is not that bad price to do the work for you. Only thing I would ask is where they are getting the cluth from and the price and ask if you buy the clutch, from where ever you find a good price, will they install and just charge labor.

Well Sweetie...

I've been raised around cars too but muscle....American that is...

But these Imports I have no idea on...

This was the first time I heard that you need to take off the suspension to get to the driveshafts....

on my 1987 Chevy Camaro (which I changed my clutch on) it was right under neath the middle of the car no need to remove anything but my exhaust and tranny itself...

but I get your point..

Well, everyone has to start somewhere. You can't be born into knowing how to change a clutch. Better to ask and learn than to just do it and fuck it up by assuming, right?

Most mechanics won't 'guarantee' the work or have any warrenty on their work if you give them a clutch to install.

depending on the age of the car........i'd be tempted to find someone in the trade who'd do it on the side for cash in hand

They are called "transaxles" not driveshafts and yes you pretty much have to disassemble the front end to get to the clutch. Which if you look into the engine bay you will also discover, unlike your Camaro. you can't work on the engine in the engine bay, you got to drop it below the car.

lol werd. I'd never want to even attempt changing spark plugs on a Crap-maro.

I can have it done in 5 minutes on my Civic.
