Anybody here know the law on spray painting cars??

I have a next door neighbour who has converted half his garden into a garage....I have no problems with this, though he has peeps coming day in and day out obviously dropping off their cars for repair.

Whats really starting to concern me is "spraying",..it must be with some motorised spray because i can here it humming..its the fumes that are worrying me?

His garage backs onto my garden, he also has an extractor fan fitted and all the fumes seem to come straight to us....Surely there is some law? He hasnt got a business or license.

Just wondered if anyone could give me a heads up cuz, not only do i have rabbits out there..i cant let my kids out when hes doing this...let alone my washing!!!

If dude does not have a business license, and is operating under the table, call the non-emergency number to the police. Fumes are not something you want to deal with, especially if you think the extractor's exhaust is pointing onto your property.

Paint-cleaning products are industrial, not residential. They should be used in locations zoned as such, and as such, he should be reported.

Even if there is no law, there is the obvious legality question. The repairs have to be done by a shop; there is physical liability involved. Did they ask you first if they could set up shop? Did they ask the other side of them, if applicable? Did they even notify you of what kind of operations were going to commence there?

These types of questions are what zoning is for. These questions are vital; if they are ignored, many problems will ensue.

Its a semi detached..so im the only one ..and no they didnt ask me anything..i think i would have much more respect if he had just simply stated that hes going to be doing this ...maybe just knock the door and let me know, so i could at least have chance to get my children, washing and rabbits out of the way ...

But he doesnt...i only realised he was doing it earlier when i went to get my washing in...now i have to re-wash..because it stinks!!!

Hell, if you have been neighbors for some time now, I think he would at least consider the health of the children, and discuss the issue with you. Must have dollar signs for eyes, or whatever symbol you use for currency denotation.

I know your right..ive lived next door to him for 4 yrs. Its always been an issue...and i feel an idiot for not doing something about it till now! I had 2 rabbits die last yr, i put it down to "shit happens"..now im not so sure.

I think its really only this year ive started to notice more as ive had my garden "done!!" so we use it more than ever...But it has always been an issue..i think im just a lil scared of the outcome, i live alone with my children...anyway..ill sort it, ty so much for your help ssl X

I believe what we have in this country is the Paint legislation, or something like that... It stipulates when it comes to paint fumes the proper precautions that must be taken.
