Default Help?

Uhm, I don't even know how to describe what my car is doing now really. It's never done this before, and it was running perfectly fine every day last week, Friday, and Saturday. Then yesterday, for some reason, it started shaking when it idles(Pretty bad too), and the engine doesn't sound as nice as it used to. Plus, there's a very weird smell coming from either the engine or exhaust, I can't tell.

I don't know if it even matters, but the window motor on my passenger side burned out the other day, and it was running fine all week with the window fucked up, but my dad put a new motor in it yesterday, which is when it started acting up(The car that is).

Edit: Also, I figured I'd be more specfific. It only tends to shake if I'm slowing to a stop, or I'm idling at a stop, or just idling in general. When I rev the engine or I'm driving, it's when the engine sounds weird and doesn't feel right. And I didn't drive it at all last night, woke up this morning, and when I first started it, it was normal for a few minutes, then went back to being fucked up as soon as I tried to drive it.

If it helps, I can try to get a video or two up that shows what it's doing.

Any ideas?

The first thing that came to mind was the O2 sensor... or TPS (throttle position sensor)

I would have someone do a diagnostics on it. I'm sure the fault codes will tell you more than any one of us could by just guessing.

Take it to autozone and have them put a scanner on it to check for CEL codes.

Ah. Well I'll try going up to Autozone today or something.

I'm wondering if somebody took my car out without telling me and fucked it up(My gas gauge was on 18 miles to empty when I got home Saturday night, and it was on 12 miles to empty when I got in it Sunday afternoon. And as I said, it was running fine when I got home Saturday night).

...I know this sounds too simple to be the answer but is it possible that its just idling too slow, seeing how the problem only happens during idle...its a new engine so maybe a little thing like that is the issue because lord knows when you put a new engine in you need to play with the timing for a bit.

It's definately not a new engine. It's a 2001 Ford Explorer, which we've had for a few years. Ha, but thanks for the idea. I should have been more specific, but when I said "new motor", I meant a new window motor. Ha, sorry for that one.

Man, I wish I had the money for a new engine! I wouldn't be posting this thread

Maybe your mom took it and did donuts in the Wal Mart parking lot up the street? Those pesky parents...

Or my sister. She's taken it before. Took the keys from my room while I'm sleeping.

Whatever it was doing(Another thing I failed to mention, the any time I would press the gas, no matter how hard, it would take a few seconds to rev the engine. The RPM wouldn't barely go up), it's stopped now. Running fine again.

I'm still gonna go to Autozone tomorrow, but it seems to be working fine, it has been for the past hour now.

Default Re: Help?

dude idle'ing problems are usually to due with timing or your o2 sensoring as tim said....

could also be dirty plugs do you rev your engine alot.....if you do you shouldn't that cloggs the shit outta your plugs....clean them and maybe change your oil too....then check it again....if not I'd change your o2 sensor....maybe it's not getting the gas to air ratio it needs....

let me know man.
