Default Re: Mac, PC, or Linux?

If you use your computer for everyday gaming then I would choose PC.
If you need to use a specialty graphic software that runs only on MAC use MAC.
If you want to browse internet SAFELY use LINUX.
If you need a firewall, router, all kind of different servers use LINUX ONLY. Windows is just not stable enough!!!

You would be surprised how much u can do with an old 486 running Linux. How about a NAT based router for 20 users, DNS cache, SQUID for www accelerating and mail server. YESSS I did a server like that for 20 users on 486DX100 runining 64MB ram and 2 ethernet cards and gues what. It was using 10% CPU on average. Mostly due to squid. Without it it would be 1-2%.

But also I've seen companies that ise Linux systems in their networks. With fancy graphical interface it's an excellent workstation for office aplications, internet, e-mail etc...

Anyways, MAC is not a good idea because of very limited game support, not being able to upgrade the system whenever you want as with LINUX or PC.

Default Re: Mac, PC, or Linux?

Long story short:

If you want a toy for games go PC........or better yet get a console...PS3, Wii etc (that's what they're made for).
If you want a top quality, stable, user friendly, non-virus prone computer get a Mac.

If you can't afford a Mac, of course you'll have to settle for a cheap computer.
But remember: Good thing no cheap, cheap thing no good.

Once you go Mac, you won't go back.

This is a public service announcement.

If you want to browse THE internet safely, learn safe practices; Linux has nothing to do with safe browsing.

Limited game support for Mac - One word: Blizzard. Screw any other games.

Limited community support for Linux. Games? What are those? We are programmers, see my printf();.

Limited credibility for Windows. Well, I have no reason to get SP3. SP2 works for me; not much into gaming (except for the soon to be released StarCraft 2, and GTA4).

When can you not upgrade a Mac at any point in time? Sure you can: Video cards, Memory, Drives, Displays -- Apple uses the HDMI stuff now --, I am pretty sure inputs, being USB2 based can be "upgraded," among other things. Want to upgrade the processor? Sure, unplug the old one, pop the new one in... Wait, you cannot upgrade it! Get a new motherboard, memory, video card; while you are at it, get a new display, drives; oh! ooh, I can run xxxx now -- get a new display -- Hell, why not just get a new Mac... Please, Mac's are upgradeable; when you upgrade a non-Mac system, what the fuck do you think you are doing? Putting in a new motherboard, because the features in your new operating system require a certain type of processor (maybe 64 bit, perhaps) which requires a new motherboard -- and while you are at it, might as well get a new set of sticks, plus try out the Raid Array you've always wanted. The new onboard sound is not that bad, so you won't upgrade the sound.

Seriously, do some homework before making random claims, dude.

Not always true. You might learn safe practices but if your operating system has got as many holes as swiss cheese...

My bad, that's probably because I never had a Mac. Should've checked that first.

I could see this as if you use a particular browser [cough... ActiveX! cough]. Ahem, food does not go down the air-pipes!

Now I see why. Because a Mac is not a Mac no more. It's more like an Intel based PC with MacOS on top of it. What happened to the Motorola's PowerPC? Oh I forgot, they realized they are no competition for Intel so they merged or something.

A Mac is a Mac is a Mac my friend. Many try to imitate. Few succeed.

They just changed processors is all. Same ole reliable architecture.

Thank you.

I chose "PC and love it" but I'd really wanted to put PC and accept it. I've always liked XP, I'm using Vista now because of a new computer. It's o.k., but I'd much rather have XP. I used a Mac for a tiny bit, I like it alright but I still like my XP better. I was really happy with Ubuntu but then I got a mobo with a Nividia built in and Linux wasn't really an option due to drivers. The fact that Linux isn't really friendly with anything puts XP at my fav.
