 Try pinching out the sucker shoots instead, better still just let the plant grow bushy you’ll have heaps of tomatoes though they will be smaller, tomatoes like acid soil with plenty of natural fertiliser, grow basil as a companion plant (pests hate basil) and don’t plant them in the same soil next season.
