Default Proper way to paint?

Whats the best way to paint your walls inside your house?

I've tried just a brush and got patches of paint here and there...

Then i tried just a roller and still got lines here and there..

Tried both and wow that looked like shit...

I even tried to use a spray gun and it looked like I was throwing graffiti on my own house...

What the hell...

I went to Lowes her in San Antonio and they told me to ****** paint the wall I don't want the ****** effect though....

Whats the best way?

I have painted 2 houses, internally & there is only one way that I know of to do it. Obviously you need to patch up & wash all the surfaces with Sugar Soap & allow them to dry before painting.

Always paint the ceiling first, then the walls, then the doors & surrounds (architraves).

Get a brush & paint around the doors, windows & architraves, use the paint sparingly, & only paint out about 100mm (3-4 inches). Now use a roller to fill in the rest. Make sure that you use a paint tray & that you roll out all the excessive paint before applying the roller to the wall. Once the paint is on the wall & not on the roller, lightly go back over the area you just painted to remove any lines or streaks that may have occurred. Never go in random rolling patterns, always try to keep the roller going straight up & down.

Use the paint sparingly - yes I know I already said that - It is better to do 2 or 3 coats, than to try & apply 1 or 2 thick coats. Allow paint to dry between each coat. Wash brushes & rollers really well or else throw away & buy new ones. Do not try to use paint encrusted brushes or rollers.

Sugar Soap is a cleaner that you buy in a plastic container. It does a good job of cleaning & degreasing something prior to painting. You should be able to buy it at your local hardware store, or something that does the same sort of thing.

It's not hard to paint but proper preparation is the key to a good outcome.

even a semi gloss will do... I paint just about every week... and I can honestly say its the paint you use that can be extremely helpful in what your end results will be like... plus having a steady hand and not a heavy hand is a big plus. Most people get it wrong by putting either too little or too much paint on the roller or brush and end up with either lines or drips.

Nice thing about behr is that they have a ten year guarantee on their paint...which means if you can't wipe it clean or the colour fades or it peels, they'll give you another can for free. I have used all other brands and this brand is my fav.

dazner........what kind of brush did you use? I always use a Purdy 3" angled brush and don't be stingy with the paint. Really soak the brush and wipe it against the can and slather it on. Always overlap too, that way you won't have streaks.
