There are two ways you can do this I think.

Option 1:

One way is editing your settings in User CP: Settings & Options: Messaging and Notifications: Default Thread Subscription Mode.

There you will see:
Quote:
"When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread Default Thread Subscription Mode:"
In the drop down window, select:
"Do not subscribe"
"No email Notification"
(or whatever you wish).

Option 2:

The other way is directly from your User CP.

Click on User CP.
(on the left panel you will see various settings and options).

Come down to "Subscribed Threads".
Click on "List Subscriptions"
In the checkbox to right side of listed threads, check on those (or all) you don't want to subscribe to.

After checking, come down to bottom of page and see a drop down panel for Selected Threads.
Select desired option. Then click "Go"

NB: If you have email notifications selected you can Unsubscribe also on a case by case basis.
You will see that option in the bottom of the message.

The Default notifications option for messages is Email notification I think so if you don't want that generally it may be best to change the Default option as outlined in Option 1.

(Personally I prefer Email Notifications. Makes keeping up with posts/responses easier and avoids having to search or miss. Still having the option to delete as needed or jump to others in email. It's up to you tho).
