Trust me he's installed linux before, so he has no problem doing it.

So I've finally got my lazy ass around to writing about this thing. I have to say I love it, you already know the specs so I'll brag about the rest. As far as games go I'm pretty happy with it. I just installed CoD4 tonight and it runs alright, I bumped everything down the the lowest settings because I'm a frames whore and it performs just fine. I have BioShock with about the same performance/appearance. It even handled the Crysis demo pretty well. Games that are 1+ years old perform great and I couldn't really ask for more. It handles Vista very well, it came with SP1 which (based on my former experience with Vista) made a world of difference. Frequent updates are annoing but I haven't had problems with crashing. However, this isn't really a review of Vista. The HP Quickplay buttons are nice, but not perfect. They are touch sensitive wich makes them look cool, they're very easty to bump. The volume button by default shows a volume pop up that freezes up frequently but it's not hard to disable. The Quickplay and DVD buttons are more of a nusance to me because I constantly bump them, but others might find these great. They keyboard is very comfortable except for the small right shift key which doesn't take much to get used to. The number pad is very convient as well. There is virtually no play in the keyboard either, it's very solid. The screen is beautiful (I opted for the 1680x1050) and great for movies and games and such. The speakers are very loud and I don't have any trouble watching movies, listing to music, or out voluming my friends. The sound stays very crisp even with the volume maxed out. The track pad is decent, it's a sticky kind of plastic that sucks at first but once you greese it up your finger will slide fine. Other than that, what can I say, it's a trackpad. I like the on/off switch for it, when I play games and use my mouse it's very convient. The entire case is very solid, some flex in the back of the screen but nothing that makes me nervous. If you're looking for a new laptop definatly take a look, I don't think you'll be dissipointed.

What did yours run for?

I have a 4 gig, 2.5ghz dual core, 1440x900, GeForce 8600M GT, 120 7200 WD HD, but mine was self built, so it only cost like a bit over 1k after shipping. Its also about 4 months old now.

I've got the 64 bit and I haven't had trouble at all. I heard that the XP version of 64 bit isn't very reliable though.

32big still recognizes like 3.4 or some shit, so you really shouldn't see that much of a performance difference.
