Default EGR System Issues?

Can anybody list some possible things(Or everything that's in the EGR system) in an EGR system that would give any reason for my "Check engine" light to come on? My dad thought it was the valve, and the guy at Autozone even said it's that(He used some scanner), but I've had it cleaned, and even bought a new one, and it's still saying "Check engine", so my dad says it's something else in the EGR system, and I have no knowledge in cars or mechanics(My dad's a mechanic though).

Any ideas? The car itself seems to run fine, so I don't know what it could be.

Air intake. My mustang had this. It's some sort of "oxygen thing."

That's all I know...

Did they reset the ECU after cleaning out the EGR?

Reset the ECU, if it stays out you fixed the problem.

Did you have the code cleared from the computer after putting the new part on? If not try taking the positve cable off the battery for about 10 minutes. That will clear any code stored, or let the auto parts store use their computer to do it. If the light comes back on then you know its something else.

Beyond that im clueless...

It's been cleaned, and a new one was bought, but I don't know anything about cars, so I don't know if anything was reset, and I'm definately not going to go unplugging battery cables and stuff XD But I'll check with my dad when he gets home.

Believe it or not, something as simple as the gas cap can cause a check engine alarm.

If it is a newer vehicle, it has to maintain a certain amount of positive pressure on the tank. Hence why they are now pressure testing gas caps.

Then again, it might be more complex.

See if it's been reset or not.

i was gonna suggest what everyone else has said. and it aint that hard ti unhook the battery. get a wrench and loosen the bolts for the battery cables on the battery posts and take cable off posts, leave unplugged for about 10 minutes and then hook the cables back up the battery posts. very easy to do. you will have to reset your clock and radio pre-sets but no biggie to do...
