Default Question: Pet Odors

My dogs (actually my sister's dog) pee'd in Jacob's room. Ive since steam cleaned it 3 times with various cleaners (oxy clean, Resolve and the Bissell steam cleaner solvent) . Ive also sprayed febreeze on it, nothing is getting the smell out of the room. I walk in and smell pee.. Jacob never pees the bed, so its not that.

You can pick up stuff at the pet store that really works... it uses an enzyme to break the pee down and remove the odor.

Pet odor is caused by amonia in the pet stain, most cleaning products are amonia based .. which don't really remove the smell (perhaps the stain coloring if anything).

If you were to run a black light over the area, it would probabaly show up white (like on crime shows) which means it's still there.

I have this stuff, and it worked great (when I needed it, I dont' have pets in the house anymore).

Do you know exactly where they pee'd? If not use a blacklight. Turn the lights off and use the black light to pinpoint the area where the problem is. Then you can focus on the problem area instead of doing the whole room. The enzyme stuff Tim mentioned is your best bet, any Petco or similar stuff has it.

The thing about pet urine is they pee enough that it gets thru the carpet and into the padding. Then when you clean you usually just get into the carpet, so give the cleaner plenty of time to soak down thru to the source.

Remember until you totally eliminate the scent the dogs will smell it and wanna pee there more. So dont let them go in there.

OK edit: I was researching and didnt see that Jennie beat me to the blacklight idea. Dangit

Ive been shutting all the doors when I leave the house now.. The only thing is I leave them open at night.. But I havent seen anymore accidents yet. Its only when we arent home that they do it. Mainly because I leave them sometimes too long in the house.

Cocoa is really good about NOT peeing in the house.. Its mainly my sister's dog and its only when she is left in the house for longer than 6 hours. I take a lunch break every day and let them out half way thru my shift.. So, I havent had MANY problems.. Just twice so far.

I had that issue before we changed the carpet to hardwood... Jackson would pee to cover up the other dog that was here before I moved in.. Then Dulce would try to cover up his scent and then so on...

Pet store enzyme remover stuff FTW
