Default touch up paint???

I am going to touch up some spots on the walls at my old apartment today. I asked the apartment what color they use but they told me that the Sherwin-Williams store had it on file and I could go there to find out. Anyway, I REALLY want to avoid painting the entire apartment, I really can't afford to and I shouldn't be around the fumes for that long being pregnant and all. I was just wondering if anyone (TIM) had any tips for how to make the touch up spots blend really well? The paint they use is totally flat in most rooms except for the kitchen and bathrooms, where it's a semi gloss. So I am assuming I need 2 cans : / I also have to patch some small holes up, how long does the spackling usually take to dry? I have never done any of this crap lol but I am really trying to avoid paying anyone money.

Wash the walls, so you don't have nice new paint next to a dull dirtyish old paint. Magic Eraser works really good for this. You can buy small tubs of spackle that goes on pink and then turns white as it dries so you know when its OK to sand or paint it.

Tim will come along with good answers to make me look retarded any time now.

you can't use magic erasers on flat paint! I learned that a few years ago haha. It leaves permanent dark spots on the walls. Actually, I don't think flat paint is washable at ALL. Anyways...I couldn't paint...the mofos wouldnt give me the paint in less than 5 gallons, which was total bs. So I just used some mesh tape and spackling and fixed up the holes. oh well. They have to repaint anyways.

You can take a sample of it to Home depot or Lowes where they can mix the exact stuff in gallons... Just go to an area where you will be patching and cut a small piece of paint off the wall... I did this before and it was a perfect match...

If you are going to paint, hit the spot good and then take your brush and make big X's over it dragging small amounts of paint from the wet to the dry... this will blend the edges so you can't tell where the new paint begins. When you do this, use less and less brush pressure with each stroke and the brush marks will disapear...

Also check with your state representative about the laws in your area concerning the landlord tenant act. Most places allow for normal wear and tear. This means unless you trashed the place, the landlord will be responsible for minor touch ups and painting. But you are NOT responsible to leave it in the exact condition you moved in with. Normal wear and tear is not something he can hold you responsible for.

i cleaned it up the best i could today. i know the carpet will need replacing, it wasn't new when we moved in and is probably the cheapest carpet I've ever had in anywhere I've lived...the puppy messed on it a few times and there are visible stains. I have 1 broken window pane, and the place needs paint. That's about it though. Hope they don't get mad about the patches in the wall lol. They stick out like a sore thumb now.

They'd paint it anyways .. regardless of if you painted the whole room .. they ar esupposed to come in and completely paint/clean the entire place before renting it out again.
