Not true, the existence of water is almost always a precursor to the existence of life.

AND, they are planning to send micro-organisms (bacteria) to that area, to discover if life can actually sustain itself in deep space.

In theory, you're right...but we still haven't successfully tested the ice on Mars' polar regions...it's all been a spectrum analysis from orbit...remember, everything we've sent in that direction has either crashed or lost it's signal. Only the missions to the equator have had positive results....all other's have been severely hampered in some way shape or form

What puzzles me is, how can we be sure that all of our scientific theories and rules can apply to another planet? For instance, we say to live it must breathe, eat and all that stuff. But how do we know that there couldnt be an intellegent life form out there to which these theories or rules do not apply?

Is it possible, yes, probable yes. That is my point, and yes all we have is theory.

For now we will have to take comfort in the idea that poeple smarter than us (slightly smarter than I

) are in dark rooms, with chalkboards figuring this stuff out.

The best theory to date, is that we live in a "multi-verse" and that like I stated earlier, each one was developed exclusively to support life within its realm.

This gave way to the "God Theory" that indicates that in order for our particular universe to have been created, it was possibly done so at the hands of "A Creative Intelligence" simply because theory suggests that due to the indices of the universe formation, there are things left undone, that recommend the the idea that something/someone knew what they were doing.

Well, the theories that surround "life out there" are almost in flux as much as space itself...we had a saying on the Navy: Semper Gumby = Always Flexable
