Default Drug Testing In Schools

Do you think there should be random drug testing in schools?

I said no. I think they should have it for athletics, but not the general school population.

Ready for this AEF?.....

I think that's infringing on their rights

For real, no sarcasm.

I think a consent form should be presented to be signed by the parents and the students at the beginning of the school year stating that they understand that there is random drug testing done at that school and they are agreeing to it being done. I think it would save a lot of lives (and I don't just mean life or death) and that it would also cut down on the violence in schools as well. Also, on top of whatever consequences for a positive drug test result, the students should have to pay for the cost of the test if they pop positive to help offset the cost of testing.

No, they can still go to school even if the parents don't sign the form.

If you want to make it mandatory for all I would imagine that the school would need to be an open enrollment school or a private school.

No, thats out of order and a violation of human rights unless there is good reason to suspect the kid is doing drugs.

I say why not? Sure it is a violation of privacy but I think it serves a good purpose and schools can maybe help kids and offer drug counseling instead of sending them off to alternative schools where they send truly BAD kids. Kids who are on drugs need not be treated like criminals, they need to be helped.

i disagree with students having to pay if the test is positive. You will get a LOT of false positives due to prescriptions, and other numerous factors. I also think there should be an investigation for every positive, I don't think wrongfully accusing will do anything to help.

We have to be realistic. Our school systems already claim to not have enough funds, so they are not going to take this on without the funds to do so. I'm just trying to suggest a viable way to help afford this. Things cost money and that point can't be ignored. If we do not offset the cost then that means that all of our property taxes go up even more.

This is why I don't agree with random testing, sure if some kid is showing signs of a drug problem but why should they be tested if they arn't showing signs of a problem or being any trouble?
