Tokenz: 2,024 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Does anyone here love rock, but grown tired of the negative, depressing, angry lyrics in much of the music? Throughout the day I want to put messages/music into my mind that have positive messages, that uplift me, that inspire me, that encourages me in all I do in life. I've also grown tired of shock jock radio dj's who seem to be completely uneducated, sexist, drunkards that have a 250 word vocabulary consisting of 4 letter words and under. I use to think I could ignore the lyrics because I like the instrumental, but over time I have just found I can't stand listening to the words coming out of these so called artists mouths. Their messages are angry and depressing. I didn't realize how much it made a difference until I tried listening to rock that only had positive messages. I've been doing this for about a year now and the impact made on my mood throughout the day is huge. It is amazing the things in life that we do not realize are effecting us, but they are. Scary actually. |

I use it for the same purpose as well, but with hard instrumental and positive lyrics. I use it in conjunction with exercise to get my anger out and to bring my heart back to a place of peace and love. mori, some of my favorite bands are Disciple { DISCIPLE } , Flyleaf www.myspace.com/flyleaf , Jars of Clay . : : J A R S of C L A Y : : . , Jonah33 www.myspace.com/jonah33 , Kutless www.myspace.com/kutless , there are a ton more bands I listen to and I will list more as time goes on. Maybe I can turn you guys on to some new bands that are really awesome and you could do the same for me. I listen to secular rock as well, but I have to pick through the music and download it and listen to it via mp3 or cd because I can't stand listening to the dj's on secular radio stations because in my opinion the things they say are ignorant and offensive. Let me know what you think of some of the bands I listed and if you have any bands or songs you think I'd like, please post a link for me. |

I will admit as open minded as i am i tend to shy away from "secular" rock. (for personal reasons) for me there is a fine line between inspirational and preachy. this is one of the reasons I love Thrice. great music, phenominal lyrics (positive too!) and all around great musicians. |

Tokenz: 295 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am with drb, I love my aggressive, angry, dark, hard music. Pantera, Killswitch Engage, Atrau, Chevelle, Tool, Breaking Benjamin, 10 Years, Evan's Blue, Seven Dust, Three Days Grace, Staind, A Perfect Circle, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Stonesour, to name a few in no particular order. I also love dark and grind step drum and bass, which is very aggressive and dark. Not all of the bands I listed are dark and/or angry, but they can all be very angsty from time to time (without crossing in to emo, don't even get me started on that). By the same token Grace, I like some of the bands you listed. Jars of Clay and Flyleaf are two of my favorites. I am not really in to Christian rock, because I dislike being preached at, but I enjoy both bands. They can get a message across without making it seam preachy, which is good.

With Christian music...I am more into indie p&w/jam type bands...my favorite is Waterdeep. Beautiful lyrics. The lead singer has a very powerful voice...of their songs..id tell you to check out "You are so good to me "Hush," "Everyone's Beautiful," and "Psalm 131," and my favorite, "I will not forget you." |

Did you like the song in the video I posted? I do not think that sounds preachy.I like rock other than Christian rock as well, I just can't stand lyrics that for example, reduce us to sex objects instead of human beings, lyrics that glorify taking drugs, lyrics that have a bunch of offensive cussing in them, you know, stuff like that. I like a lot of the bands you listed, but I just do not like every one of their songs. So instead of me buying their albums, I will just buy the single download I like.
