Anyone played Final Fantasy 12 for PS2? I just got it this past week, freakin' awesome. Stuck right now though, haha. just gimme your thoughts about the game, good or bad! (or what you think it's like if you haven't played it.)

I got it on Halloween (haha, I hear you all calling "NERRRRD"--Matt does it all the time, don't be shy).

So far, I'm finding it really good. I prefer the new system, I think. It's very smooth. The story is very "EPIC PLOT", though. Sort of generic "stop the war, save the royalty" bit.

Balthier and Fran are my favourite characters. I find Vaan, Ashe, Basch and Penelo all kind of suck. Vaan is the sort of girly protagonist they've been going with for a few games. I miss the broody protagonists (think, Cloud from FF7, Squall from 8). Generally I hate female characters, so Fran surprised me. I think it's partly her accent, partly the fact that she is basically a rabbit.

I hate that series... how can it be the final fantasy if there is 13 of them. (wtf James this one is 12, well duh... but there's a 10 and a 10-2!)

So there. I still don't get the whole name of it with sequels.

I only count X-2 as .5 of a game. It was shit anyway.

My opinion: the original ones were pretty good. VII was by far the best Final Fantasy, and then VIII. X and X-2 WERE GIANT MISTAKES THEY SUCK. I played X and wanted to die. And then I started X-2 and realized what a giant mistake it was to even put the game in the tray.

I generally HATE HATE HATE WITH A BLOODY PASSION the females of the Final Fantasy games. With the exception of Elena from VII, but you couldn't play her. So what did X-2 do? MADE THE ENTIRE CAST FEMALE. I wanted to stab my eyes out.

XII actually has one bearable female character; Fran. Who is basically some random playboy bunyy with a cool accent. And Penelo isn't even completely bad, so I can't complain on that one.

But yeah.

final fantasy 12 looks interesting. i played 10 when my brother still lived at home, and then saw him play 12 over here, one random event, maybe winter break or something...

12 doesnt look as good at 10. 10 had some fucking awesome graphics, specially some of the special moves and summons...

but 12 takes the out of the world battles, like in 10, and puts them back into the "real" world.

and james - the title "final fantasy" is not something wierd.. most of the series had a final fantasy. just like in real life, you and i do not have the same "final fantasy"... they are different - and so is each game (maybe a few are extensions, i really dont know too much of the whole series) ..

so, keep that in mind, and 12 looked great, much different from 10, but hell, each final fantasy to his own.

Hmm, well, FFX and X-2 were disgraces to the Final Fantasy franchise, that's all I have to say about that. And I find it interesting you've all talked about all FFVII, VIII, X, and X-2? but what about FFIX? that was one of the best FF's out there. Ah well. Regardless, unlike other Final Fantasy games, all of the characters have the ability to be at least decent in FFXII, although some are definitely better than others.

The thing about Final Fantasies, is that they're very built up for storyline. Seven will always be my favourite FF, but the graphics are basically shit. I hated ten, mostly because the characters annoyed me. Seven had it's share of annoying characters (Tifa, Aeris, Yuffie), but one of them is an optional character and one of them dies. So it works.

Agree with you about X and X-2.

The reason I haven't said anything about IX is just that I haven't played it. I'm not going to spout an opinion on a game I haven't played. I have heard that it's good, but I guess we'll have to see. I can probably buy it used for eight bucks or something, so maybe I'll play it later.

Oh and: I don't count XI. Online? Come on!

.. umm... the first final fantasy.started it all..i have the original nes cartridge ..(as well as the gba remake :P) i have only played 1-5, x + x2 (i slaughtered x in a weekadn didnt even bother playing x-2 to compeltion cause of the suckery [only saving factor was graphics] XI on pc for all of 30 min (not my account ) and fell in love with XII round about the first boss fight, its like a personal MMORPG gambits=love, the summons rather suck.. i'd prefer if they worked more like quickenings and was just one big CG orgy, or if it didnt make your entire team dissapear (only remove 4th player slot would be perfect) ..also i prefer the magic system for ff2 where you buy "Fire" and it gets stronger the more you use it (and you can target multiples early)..i also miss duel weild for obvious reasons even if it was a liscense you had to buy that cost 500lp i'd be satisfied. the boss/mark battles are challenging in the good way ( i can usually get a strategy and take them out in about 3 attempts or less)

the story however cliche at its core is not so cookie cutter so it keeps me entertained ( a few HOLY CRAP moments keep in interesting as well

I think I might have to agree with you for most of that. (I found out what Balthier's real name is, but I'm not at that part in the game--how the hell do you pronounce that? haha)

I think I might have to change the order of fav characters though. Balthier>Fran>Penelo>Basch>Ashe>Vaan. Vaan is too spunky and totally a child. And has a really dumb outfit. Like, Tidus, only slightly better, but still with no real redeeming qualities. Not that Tidus had any... but you know what I mean.

well ashe is to ..damsel in distress but trying to be independant for my tastes..vaan however "spunky" at least makes of a decent character in a fight..so personality aside if i gotta replace one of my characters cause they are dead i'll pick vaan over ashe

My Ashe would rape my Vaan. Which is a gross image, but that's just how it works.

Of course, total favouritism has made Balthier into a sort of tank. But a fast one. He looks awesome with katanas.

balthier is my master mage/gunner..he's to smart to get intot eh fray..send the minions in to take the hits while he sits the the back picking off potshots and casting magics of various varieties at his leasure
my tank woudl have to be fran..huge frickign spear..heavy armor..gah its enough to make the easter bunny drool himself into an orgasmic coma

and it so fun when i have haste caste on everybody..some mosnters don't even have a chance to spawn properly before they croak and i collect my littel bag of goodies

Basch is probably the tankiest stat wise. Fran turned into a wuss for me, but I'm jacking her up.
