Default Damn, the piracy is getting out of hand

I'm hoping the majority of you will be on my side with this one, but here we go.

Basically you can go on Youtube and Google video right now and watch the whole SAW III movie in some what good quality. These videos have been there for a couple of weeks now and my question is why haven't they been removed? Now, I'm not saying that all movies have a piracy problem, but they certianly aren't on google video for everyone to watch. This really upsets me. Your thoughts....

I already flagged the videos as copyright infringement on Youtube and Google video. hopefully they will be taken down soon. Damn if your going to pirate a movie at least make it look good. Not that it's ok. So, here's what I say. It's like me stealing $5 from you. Sure, it's small, but it's still theft, it's still WRONG. Seriously, people call themselves fans? You have the OPTION to watch it. If you WATCH it, even if you didn't make the video, your an accomplice, you are just as wrong. I keep hearing things like, "I am in college and don't have the money". Ok, you can afford a computer, tuition, and apartment, but not the $6 to see it in theaters, or the $15 to get the DVD? Or even the $4 to rent it on DVD? Stop being so bloody impatient. Wait one month, and then buy the DVD. Some of these idiots admit to downloading the movie. Ok, here's why it's stupid. It's and Lionsgate owned movie, and they admit to downloading it on a Lionsgate-owned forum. Trust me when I tell you, Lionsgate has attorneys for this sort of thing. I'd have to encourage anyone who runs across something thats illegally available to report it. Imagine if you were a film maker, struggling to pay the bills and one day you hit it big with a great hit- and people are stealing it? Oh yeah, and if you didn't see the film because you were too young to get in theaters- get over it and get a parent to by the DVD. Sure, Lionsgate has money. Darren and James and Leigh probably aren't doing to bad themselves. That's no excuse. At one time, they were struggling. Singers, musicians, film makers are just like any of us with a job. Movie piracy is a big problem, it's sad that people can justify it simply because the movie studios have a lot of money or is it just the fact that its so easy? People tend to think that because they're on their computer, in their house, they can do what every they want. Its still illegal - end of story. Time for some math.

The videos get around 4,926 views in one day

4,926 X lets say $7 to see it in the theaters = $34,482
4,926 X $20 for a dvd = $85,920

Like some people say, it's not much compared to the millions the movie made, but it's still lost profit.

One last thing before I let this topic loose, I suggest some people sign this petition, or report any piracy they come across to the MPAA.

first off, i do not condone, nor condemn, those who engage in such activities.

secondly, it doesnt matter what the mpaa/riaa does, those who wish to engage in such activities will always find a way to engage in those activities. so, its kinda pointless to even try to prosecute those who engage in those activities, because its not like there arent other ways of obtaining revenues from those venues.

Ok, then why the hell would you post here? I'm trying to start a real conversation, and you're just acting stupid. Who cares? Well, for one, I do. I find it rediculous to say "I love this movie/band/company" and then sink so low as to pirate the item. Piracy is wrong, no matter what the reason is.

Dude.. honestly. Piracy isn't taking as much money out of their pockets as you may think. I for one have downloaded music before. Not complete albums, but a song or two here and there. And if I like the song... guess what? I go to the store and BUY THE ALBUM! You think I'm the only one who does this? I think not. Sure, there are some who only download music and never buy albums. So be it. Until they get caught and fined, who gives a shit? I certainly don't!
Here's an example. Metallica. Remember when they went before Congress and were bitching and moaning about people dowloading their songs? Remember how many fans turned their backs on them? Remember how they are all four still multi-millionaires? Catch my drift? Sure piracy is wrong. But for every one person who downloads movies and music, another twenty buy the DVD's and CD's.
Who cares?

Well first. How do you know it's not a legal copy of the movie uploaded? There is no copying going on, no piracy going on. It's a legal copy uploaded to a server being displayed.

That, in effect, is legal. Much like you buying a 10 dollar DVD and inviting your friends over to watch it.

4926 x $7 for a movie...

$7 for a movie at the theatre? Where do you live? 1978?

Metallica was a front for the RIAA. Puppets, if you will. The RIAA is the mastermind behind one of Metallicas songs... Master of Puppets.

Get it? Oh that's hilarious.

I give copies of CDs I buy to my brother all the time. I give him the CD I bought for 12.99, and he rips it onto his computer, and I take albums from his computer and upload them to mine.

That's perfectly legal.

I do the same thing. Damn near every CD I own is ripped onto my laptop and a good portion of those songs are uploaded onto my iPod. Oh noes! I'm a pirate! Harrrrrrr!!! Shiver me timbers!

More like Orange Park, Florida. Movie tickets are actually $10 for an adult, $9 for a kid my age, and $6 if you're over 50 or under 12. As for the copies of it, I know it's illegal because the movie isn't in theaters, there were copies of it floating around while it was in theaters, and it's not even out on DVD yet, add to that the fact that the clips are of poor quality, the audio doesn't synchronize with the visual, it's a few seconds behind it, and it's very poor visual quality. Then add the fact that I'm registered on the official Lionsgate owned SAW forum, so I get all the updates as to what clips are released when and where, and none have been released since the latest teaser clip of the Body Chains back before SAW III came to theaters. And the fact that the clips being shown are just the ending, and Lionsgate did everything they could just to protect the ending to SAW II and SAW III from the press, so why release clips of the ending, in very poor quality at that? Just to make us think they were pirated? I never said downloading a song here or there was wrong, how do you think I get burned CDs or my MP3 player? But going and pirating clips of a movie is pretty wrong, let alone almost the entire movie.

Why, because of college tuition, books, etc? I'll just go without watching movies, big deal. Besides, I've still got 2 & 1/2 years until college.

Come to the theater near the Avenues. I don't think I've ever paid more than $7 for a ticket.

As far as piracy, I don't think it's taking a significant amount of money away from them. They've grossed over $140,000,000 worldwide. Yes, it's wrong but in the grand scheme of things, they have bigger things to be concern about.

Hmm... Piracy. I personally believe that it is stealing yet I understand why people do it. Honestly who would rather pay money to go see a movie compared to getting to watch it free online? I go to the movie theatre in my town to watch movies, it's only $4.00 at night and $2.00 but I'm at a college town... I rip both DVDs and CDs into my computer that I have either bought or borrowed from a friend... I don't see anything wrong in that... downloading music off the internet isn't it basically the same time as when people used to record music on tape off of the radio? It's just a little more advnaced now from mp3's to mp3 players... Singers and Bands are still VERY rich... no matter what people do... there will ALWAYS be people out there that WILL find a way to pirate stuff... It's the internet, what's a guy to do?
